I agree completely. In vr I find textures can sometimes be a hindrance as they can make the image a blurry sparkly mess in vr. I don't think it's a coincidence that some of the best vr games have very simple graphics, e.g. astrobot. With a good art direction textures in vr can be simplified massively to help performance and also make it look better
